PCL in General Medicine (Health Assistant)

Program is one of the prominent and popular disciplines within the health profession in Nepal. This curriculum is three years academic course affiliated to CTEVT which is based on yearly system. Moreover, one academic year consists of 40 academic weeks and one academic week consists up to 40 hours excluding evaluation period aims to provide mid-level health professionals who can assist the rural community in health care, under the supervision of a qualified experts to carry out a spectrum of duties to meet the demand of such workforce in the country to contribute in the national economic development of Nepal. General Medicine graduates who have established professional goals and refined clinical competency can pursue further education which will reinforce their professional image to challenge their scholastic aptitudes and prepare them for undergrad school if anticipated.

Scope of General Medicine

After completion of the course, individuals will become eligible candidates for registration in the Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC) in grade “B” that permits them to work in any hospitals, nursing homes, and health institutions of government and the non-government sector as a mid-level health worker. The main scope and working area of General medicine (HA) are:

  • In the government health delivery system, they act as Head of Health Posts
  • Primary Health care Centers (PHCCC)
  •  Urban Health Centers
  • Health Promotions and Education Centers
  • Hospitals, Policilnics, Rehabilitation centers
  • Health Insurance
  • Medical Recording and Reporting,
  • Research Area (Preventive Promotion and Curative Sector)
  • Health-Related NGOs and INGOs
  • Various Projects
  • Self-Employment

Objectives of the Program

The objective of the General Medicine (HA) program is to yield competent and progressive knowledge and applied skills at mid-level health workers necessary to deliver high-quality health services needed

for the country. Specifically, the program entails the following objectives:

  • Establish competency in identifying and resolving community health problems.
  • Establish basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary to diagnose and manage primary health problems of community people.
  • Establish basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary to diagnose and manage primary health problems of community people.
  • Establish the necessary knowledge and skills to work in a variety of health care settings.
  • To pursue further academic careers in Bachelor Degree (MBBS, BPH)
